Together with SIAP Sp. z o.o. and NBA Batterie (Nuova Brescia Accumulatori S.r.l.), GoodsTag has built one of the first market-ready Digital Product Passports (DPPs) for a real battery: not a mock-up, but a passport for a battery that is actually produced and sold.
Scan it yourself at ECR iN Motion
At the ECR iN Motion convention, organised with GS1 Germany, visitors can try the battery passport themselves. A demo case with the battery carries a dedicated QR code: one scan opens the battery's Digital Product Passport on the smartphone, with its identification, technical data, compliance documents and end-of-life information.
The response at the stand showed what makes the topic tangible: once people hold a phone over a real battery and see its data, the Digital Product Passport stops being an abstract regulation and becomes a product feature.
Why this matters now
Under the EU Batteries Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, every battery placed on the EU market must carry a QR code from 18 February 2027. For LMT batteries, industrial batteries above 2 kWh and electric vehicle batteries, that QR code leads to the battery passport. For other batteries, it must still give access to regulatory information such as the battery's identification, manufacturing plant and date, the EU declaration of conformity and end-of-life information; read more in our article No Battery Passport Needed? You Still Need Digital Battery Data Behind the QR Code.
With SIAP and NBA Batterie, we have shown that this can work with real products, real production data and real systems today, well before the deadline.
Thank you
Our thanks go to the teams at NBA Batterie and SIAP, in particular Carlo Pizzini and Christian Decarli (NBA Batterie) and Sławomir Cyganek, Marek Wojcik, Ewa Zaremba, Stanisława Ilcewicz, Kamil Szelag and Paolo Poli (SIAP), and to GS1 Germany for hosting the event.
