On 4 November 2026, GS1 Germany hosts the GS1 EXCHANGE: Data for Sustainability at the GS1 Knowledge Center in Cologne. The event is about one question: how do regulatory requirements such as PPWR, EmpCo, EUDR and CSRD turn into real digital implementation across the value chain? GoodsTag is there with a booth and on stage.
Our lightning talk: one data infrastructure instead of silos
In a short, focused presentation, we show a practical approach to two requirements that companies often handle separately: the new labelling requirements of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and the stricter rules for environmental claims under the EmpCo Directive.
Instead of treating them as two projects, we demonstrate how both can be solved in one automated data infrastructure, using the GS1 Digital Link and the Digital Product Passport (DPP): one code on the pack, one verified data source behind it, and the right information for every audience.
What to expect at our booth
- PPWR and refill: how dynamic, QR-linked information replaces rigid packaging labels and supports refill and reuse models. The harmonised PPWR labels apply from 12 August 2028 at the earliest, and packaging decisions made today will still be on the shelf then.
- EmpCo and anti-greenwashing: how verified primary data backs environmental claims at the point of sale. The EmpCo Directive (EU) 2024/825 has applied in the Member States since 27 September 2026, and generic claims such as "eco-friendly" now need recognised proof.
Listen, test or just talk
Whether you are looking for a software platform, have open questions about the regulations, or want to discuss the biggest implementation hurdles over a coffee: drop by our presentation, test our solutions at the booth, or send us a message to arrange a meeting. After the programme, GS1 Germany invites everyone to a networking evening.
Are you at the GS1 EXCHANGE too? We look forward to meeting you in Cologne.
