How does GoodsTag enable brand authentication and protect against counterfeit products?
GoodsTag is able to authenticate every product that has a unique ID that is known via our dynamic reference identity (DRI) to GoodsTag’s enterprise Smart Product Services Platform (SPSP). Each product needs to have that unique ID printed on its label (optical or electronic) and needs to readable by smartphone or scanner. So when a consumer buys products protected by GoodsTag’s smart global brand protection, he can scan the label to see if the product is real or not. Products that are not known to GoodsTag’s SPSP, or products that no longer have a label (or the correct label, for that matter), are not authenticated and the consumer knows that he is dealing with an unlicensed product.
What industries work with GoodsTag?

Does GoodsTag’s solution work for all of my products?
Yes, as long as all of your products have a unique ID that is known via our dynamic reference identity (DRI) to GoodsTag’s enterprise Smart Product Services Platform (SPSP). If your products are currently produced without unique IDs on an item level and you want to change this in order to benefit from our SPSP, get in touch with us. If your products already have unique IDs on an item level, then there are multiple ways to make them known to our platform and equip them with a DRI.
What is a smart product tag?
A smart product tag is what we call the unique optical (QR, Print, Hologram, etc.) or electronic (NFC, RFID, etc.) label that is on each of your smart products. It is smart because it can communicate passively with any compatible device (smartphones, scanners, etc.) and transmit relevant ID information that you can use to activate relevant services via our SPSP.
How does GoodsTag’s software work with my other existing IT systems?
What is the difference between RFID and NFC technology?
Radio-frequency identification (RFID) and near-field communication (NFC) both rely on electromagnetic fields to communicate information that is stored (actively or passively) in electronic tags. These tags respond to radio-frequencies transmitted by active RFID and NFC devices. One of the main difference between the two technologies are their use cases: RFID (also referred to as RFID-UHF, meaning ultra high frequency) works better at larger ranges (1-600 meters), NFC works better at shorter ranges (1-10 cm). If you are unsure which of the two technologies best works for your smart product use case, we are happy to consult you.
Can I use any smartphone to read NFC chips?
It is estimated that by the end of 2018, over 330 models and close to 3 billion smartphones will be NFC-compatible. You can use an iPhone 7 or newer as well as any smartphone running on Android 4.5. or newer.
Why can’t my smartphone read RFID?
Smartphones do not have sufficient hardware to read RFID correctly. Therefore, we recommend NFC for consumer-related services; for business-related services, where you have professional RFID-compatible devices (scanners, antennas, etc.), we recommend using RFID.
Setting up GoodsTag.
How long does it take to set up GoodsTag?
There is a short and a long answer to this question. The short is that it doesn’t necessarily take long at all and that you can have your smart products IoT ecosystem up and running within 6 months, if you like. Much of It depends on your current product and IT ecosystem and the steps you want to take to offer your partners and customers smart services. The longer answer is that it really depends on the individual IoT use case(s) that you have in mind. Therefore, before making any predictions, we recommend starting with a project consulting phase in the beginning to give you a better understanding of the current trends and opportunities, then continuing with benchmarking against other industry players, and then defining a roadmap with all of the relevant stakeholders within your organization to ensure that you settle on the right smart product IoT strategy for your brand for the future.
